Yesterday, I was in a picture on the cover of the Durango Herald business and technology section(click here for article) and also mentioned in the article referring to my businesses, Chiropractic Durango and Durango Bike Fit. Of course, a patient saw this and asked me, “Why are you taking a business class?” I paused for a few seconds and thought about this great question, and have continued to think about it. An initial response went through my head, and probably others – “Is it because of the money?” hmmmmm….I enjoy nice bikes, living in Durango, and all of the things money can buy. But that’s not the reason that I pour so much energy into my business. Money is great – but it’s not everything!

I have many different reasons I want to be a better business person. For one, the better I become at running a business, the more people that I get to meet. I get to spend time with some of the most interesting, dynamic and healthy people on the planet. The better I become, the more people want to see me, and that equals more people I get to meet.

Another reason is because I like to challenge myself to deliver top notch services to my clients. My education and interests have set me up to share with people a whole new way of looking at healthcare, and also an avenue to deliver this. Improving my ability to bring patients through my doors and delivering my message ultimately means healthier people taking less medication and having less surgeries. These leads to a healthier community in all aspects. This is ultimately the big vision.

To fulfill my big vision of health and awareness, being the best businessman that I can is imperative. And that’s why I spend my time sitting in the front row….haha.

Chasing Your Passions

Chasing Your Passions

It’s the Tuesday following the 3 day holiday weekend. Tour de France riders are currently battling each other over the cobblestones of France for the Maillot Jaune. It has been a classic race this morning. Sometimes, I often look at professional athletes and think to myself “I want to do that!” But wait – I am just coming off a unbelievable weekend of riding high alpine singletrack. Friday was the Dryfork – CT loop, Saturday was CT – Corral Draw – Hermosa Creek, Sunday was Kennebec – CT. I wouldn’t trade that for anything.

We had alot of tourists in Durango during the busy holiday weekend. It got me thinking. We all travel or move to towns like Durango to chase our passions – cycling, boating, boating, hiking. We may not be professional athletes, but we all want to go faster, further, longer. So how do you do that when we have jobs, families, and all the responsibilities that life requires?  Tie your passions to your daily life. When you only have a finite amount of time to make the most out of your passions, having your mind and body prepared and strong allows you to have more fun. I have listed the 5 most important areas to achieve elite weekend warrior status.

1. Training Intensity – You would be amazed at what a proper training plan can do for your health and performance. Using your time wisely and training at the correct intensity can make all the difference.

2. Nutrition – Fuel is important to everyone, but to us who are busy, it can often be overlooked in the name of convenience. One simple tip -Remember what you are eating for. How will the food you are eating help you do better on that hike or ride this weekend.

3. Recovery - If time permits only bigger efforts of physical activity on the weekend, no big deal. Don’t worry during the week and wish you could have more time to train more, just use the week to do efforts that support proper recovery for the weekend!

4. Rest - Sleep is critical to success in work and play. Our bodies like sleep the most between the hours of 10 pm and 6 am. Hit these sweet spots and your body will be stronger.

5. Fun – Remember, we love our passions because they are fun. Don’t lose that. You aren’t getting a paycheck for your efforts, but often enough, your paycheck during the week depends on your mental state. Our passions help our minds perform better too.

Alternative health practitioner education requirements

What are your most common fears or concerns when visiting a health care practitioner? Are they something like, “Does this person know what they are doing?” or, “Should I be at a different doctor?”

Being a chiropractor, putting myself in my patients shoes is important. Chiropractic is a relatively young and unknown profession. Generous estimates state that only 20% of people have ever seen a chiropractor. That number drops significantly when you consider the amount of people that see a chiropractor on a regular basis as part of real treatment plan.

Back pain is a top reason for doctor visits in this country. So why such a small number of chiropractor visits? There are many reasons, but one reason may be the unknown. As a consumer, you want to ensure that your doctor is qualified and legitimate. You are sure that your family M.D. is credentialed, but the chiropractor down the street…..ummm, not so sure. Click Here for a link to the National Institutes of Health that compares the educations of various popular forms of alternative medicine.

Net time you are looking for a solution to a health issue you are experiencing, look at all of your options. Something affordable and effective may be available to you.
